Minimalist Makeup + Product Review

Minimalist Makeup + Product Review

Most of us watch and adore a lot of makeup tutorials on social media which all looked so perfect. I too, developed a habit of watching these videos on my free time. Unconsciously, these tutorials gradually set the standard for wearing makeup: flawless foundation, highlight and contour, on fleek brows and a killer winged liner. Though this standard can make you look definitely better, conforming is not a necessity.

Instagram Make Up Trend – No Need To Follow

First, because cosmetic products aren’t cheap. Even if you stick to drugstore products and individual cheap items, all their added up prices will cost you a chunk of cash. And if you use these products regularly, you will have to replenish them more often too.

Second, because every country differs in climate and culture, some makeup practices aren’t really acceptable. In the conservative Philippines, wearing full and heavy makeup are only meant for beauty pageants and not for daily regular routine. Not to mention the hot climate that will surely ruin a face full of makeup.

Because of these two reasons, you can definitely break away from the makeup trend and look cute with only just three products! The key is identifying your top three facial features that needs more definition. In my case, it is my thin eyebrows, pale skin and patootie eyelashes.

For this, I’ve picked three products that directly addresses these facial deficiencies: mascara, eyebrow pencil and cheek tint. Here’s a review for each product:

1. Fashion 21 Double Up Mascara Review
Of all available mascaras out there, this is one of those that actually lives up to its claims: volumize and waterproof. I’ve jumped from one mascara to another, finding the perfect one that doesn’t give racoon eyes every time I step out of the shower and I tell you, Fashion 21’s mascara doesn’t give you that kind of inconvenience. Aside from the fact that it has good volumizing effect, it’s quite cheap for only around P250.

2. Nichido Eyeliner Pencil Review
For only P60, Nichido’s Eyeliner Pencil is a steal! It has a good formula that can easily be blended on the eyebrows, and is encased in soft processed wood that is easily sharpened without breaking the liner so easily. For my minimalist makeup, I picked a black pencil that matches my black hair. This color combo can work as long as you use a light hand and blend the liner properly making the brows look fuller and still natural. Since I picked a black pencil, I can also use this to line my eyes or to tightline my upper lash line if I like, which makes this product very versatile.

3. KJM Cheek and Lip Tint Review
This is another versatile makeup product that can be used for both the cheeks and lips. Tint products are usually formulated for bare face application in which they stick and blend on better than a face with foundation. Since I have terrible under eye circles, I usually apply the tint as high as ontop of my eyebags for instant cover up and I cross it over my nosebridge for that ‘sunburned’ effect. Priced at only P175, this liptint brand is proudly philippine made and comes with a cute packaging and roller top for spillage prevention. Also, there are alot of shades to choose from.

Our makeup should always reflect our personal brand: ourselves. It should make us feel more confident and empowered but never let us forget that real beauty is still good character.
